Our Approach
Collaborate
It takes a village to raise a child, and you are the expert when it comes to understanding your child. At Ohana Kids Therapy, we combine our professional knowledge and experience with your unique insights to provide tailored support and therapy that addresses your child’s specific needs.
In addition to working with you as a parent, we believe in the power of collaboration. Whenever possible, we work closely with other therapists, educators, and professionals who can contribute to your child’s development.
Together, we create a team-oriented, holistic approach to ensure that your child receives the best care and support possible, empowering them to reach their full potential.
Natural Environments
We believe in providing therapy in the most natural settings for the child, such as their home, childcare, kindergarten, parks, and other familiar environments. These are the places where our practitioners can observe and identify areas where the child needs support, allowing them to implement strategies in real-time. This approach also reduces the stress parents face in driving their child to multiple appointments.
Most importantly, many children struggle with generalizing the skills they learn. Generalization refers to a child’s ability to transfer the skills and knowledge gained in therapy to other settings, people, and activities.
Therefore, it’s more effective for children to practice their skills in their natural environments. This way, they are better able to apply what they’ve learned consistently, rather than wondering why they can do something in one place but not in another.
Capacity Building
“What happens in between early intervention sessions is what makes the most difference!” – Early Childhood Intervention Australia.
We understand that therapists and educators may come and go, and changes are inevitable. That’s why we focus on building the capacity of parents and caregivers, who are the consistent figures in their child’s life. The more parents and caregivers learn and engage, the more they can maximize their child’s therapy moments throughout the week and in between sessions.
By empowering families with the right knowledge and strategies, we ensure that the support continues beyond the therapy room, helping children make meaningful progress every day.
